ChargePoint, Allego, EVBox develop european charging solutions

ChargePoint announced in a press release on March 31st that it has formed an alliance with electric vehicle (EV) charging service providers Allego and EVBox to support the launch of a consumer centric electric vehicle policy in Europe. This alliance called “ChargeUp Europe” was established during the digital revolution online event, and it also called on other like-minded companies in the electric vehicle industry to join together.
“In the context of highly relevant policy agendas, we believe it is time to form a unified voice to speak for the European charging infrastructure industry. We are committed to working with EU decision-makers and stakeholders to determine the necessary policies and investments to drive the development of the EU electric vehicle market. The shift towards electric vehicles is crucial for achieving the zero emission vision, and the alliance is committed to supporting the construction of electric vehicle charging infrastructure, which will have a positive impact on the popularization of electric vehicles,” said Christopher Burghardt, Managing Director of ChargePoint Europe.
An in-depth analysis of IHS Markit’s viewpoint
According to the press release, ChargePoint, Allego, and EVBox Group have over 150000 charging stations in the entire charging network of the European Union. The three companies have also signed interoperability agreements with several other electric vehicle charging operators to expand the number of charging stations available to customers. In 2019, ChargePoint signed a charging roaming agreement with NewMotion for the UK market. ChargePoint has announced plans to deploy over 2.5 million charging stations worldwide by 2025. Most of these charging stations will be evenly distributed in Europe and North America, with a small portion deployed in Oceania (Australia and New Zealand). EVgo has also signed an interoperability agreement with Electrify America. This agreement will allow drivers to charge their electric vehicles on EVgo and Electrify America public chargers at no additional cost, allowing for a seamless experience with existing accounts.
