【 EV Vision Comprehensive Report 】 Recently, overseas media reported that Chargepoint and EVBox, two major charging equipment manufacturers and operators in Europe and America, have reached a cooperation agreement. Starting from January 2019, they will connect the payment platforms of the two charging networks, allowing electric vehicle owners to pay the charging fees of both companies with just one registered account. In addition, using the charging stations of the two operators in North America and Europe can achieve roaming services at no additional cost.
According to foreign media reports, ChargePoint and EVBox are brewing to implement a “seamless roaming” service between the two charging networks. Users do not need to register accounts and settle charging fees separately on the charging networks of the two operators. As long as they use the accounts of either charging network of these two operators, they can pay for the charging fees of both, which eliminates the trouble of users using multiple accounts for settlement. This service will be officially launched from January 2019 and is currently in the stage of equipment and operational network debugging.
In addition to connecting payment platforms between the two charging operators, they will also to some extent lift geographical restrictions. After the official launch of the “seamless roaming” service, pure electric vehicles can be charged using these two charging stations in North America and Europe. Moreover, during the journey of electric vehicle owners driving pure electric vehicles on the North American and European continents, even roaming charging will not incur additional costs.
ChargePoint is a North American company that has established approximately 55000 charging stations in multiple countries worldwide; As a large-scale charging equipment manufacturer and operator in Europe, EVBox has also built over 60000 charging stations in 45 countries. The strong alliance of these two companies has indeed pioneered the field of electric vehicle charging networks, perhaps promoting various charging network operators to gradually move towards platform based payment and bringing users a better charging experience.
There are also many domestic charging operators, which means that an electric vehicle owner may use multiple charging accounts. Moreover, due to regional differences, driving to other provinces and cities may require the use of less commonly used charging operators to charge and register new accounts, which is very cumbersome. If various charging operators can connect payment interfaces and use one account to pay for the electricity bills of multiple operators, this will greatly improve the charging experience of electric vehicle owners.
